The Ribble Way Trail Runs return for their third year organised by the Rotary Club of Preston Guild. The runs will take place along the scenic banks of the River Ribble starting and finishing at The Dolphin Inn – Marsh Lane, Longton, Preston. The courses are part of the Ribble Way footpath, crossing fields and traditional stiles and passing through kissing gates. All proceeds will be donated to local, national and international charities.
The idea for the Ribble Way Run came from one of our members, who, while jogging near to The Dolphin Inn realised there was an opportunity to organise a run in the locality and so the idea was born.
The 10k course is an out and back trail race on relatively flat paths, through fields crossing a number of traditional stiles and takes in part of the Ribble Way.
There will be a water station at the 5k turn of the race and at the finish.
ALL finishers receive a commemorative bespoke medal, Mug and a light snack kindly provided by one of our sponsors Green Crab Pubs,The Dolphin Inn

The fun run trail course is approx. 3km on relatively flat paths and tracks on the embankment close to the Dolphin Inn. It shares the start and finish for the main races on the day.
All entrants will wear race numbers and receive times. There will be water available at the end of the race.
ALL finishers will receive a commemorative bespoke medal and token packet of sweets.

The half marathon course is an out and back trail race to the old Penwortham Bridge over the River Ribble. The course is on relatively flat paths and tracks, through fields, crossing a number of traditional stiles, through kissing gates and takes in the last 10k of the Ribble Way.
There will be water stations at the turn of the race near Penwortham Bridge, 5k on the way out and back and at the finish.

Running numbers can be collected on race day from the race HQ in the Function Room at the Dolphin Inn.
Registration opens at 8.00am. Please bring your email confirmation or payment receipt with you when collecting your race pack to ensure a swift collection process. Please arrive in plenty of time to avoid queues. There will be an enquiry desk if you have any problems or questions about the race. Runners are asked to write down emergency contact details on the back of their race number before the start of the race. There will be a supply of pins to attach your running number to the front of your running top.
The race venue is the The Dolphin Inn, Marsh Lane, Longton, Preston. The postcode for Sat Navs is PR4 5JY. The race HQ will be clearly signed.
On the A59 from Preston towards Southport, take Liverpool Road at the roundabout near Hutton, continue through to Longton turning right into Marsh Lane at the Golden Ball public house. Follow Marsh Lane into Hall Carr Lane and the field car park on the right hand side.
On the A59 from Southport to Preston, take Liverpool Road at the roundabout near Walmer Bridge (the Fox Cub public house), take the second left into Hall Carr Lane and the field car park on the left hand side.
The field car park will be clearly marked. Access to The Dolphin Inn and race HQ will be from the end of the field through the gate, next to the Inn.
Parking is available in the field opposite The Dolphin Inn and race HQ accessed from Hall Carr Lane and will be clearly signed, see map. Donation to Longton Primary School. There will be NO vehicular access to The Dolphin Inn for race entrants. Please do NOT park on the road
If you have to drop out for any reason, and you cannot make your own way back to the race venue to collect your belongings, then make your situation known to a course steward or a member of the medic crew. If you are very slow, but are determined to finish, on-course facilities may become less available. Our team at the rear of the field will endeavour to give you support and advice. At some point, perhaps through tiredness, cramp, blisters, etc, you may be forced to walk. If this happens you must move as far to the left hand side as possible to allow runners to overtake.
Arrive in plenty of time to allow you to park; collect your running number; get changed and visit the toilet etc. Just before the start the toilets become busy so plan your visit carefully.
When you’ve got your running number, fill in the medical information section on the back. Be careful not to damage or lose your number, as replacements can’t be issued. If there’s a risk you may blackout during the race (for example if you suffer from fits), put a red cross on the front of your number. Please pin your number on your FRONT without folding or covering it - it needs to be seen by the race marshals. Do not pass your running number onto somebody else without first notifying registration - this is to ensure the results are correct and for obvious safety and medical reasons. When you are happy that you are ready to run, make your way to the start area. The route to the start point is clearly marked. Line up behind the start line, where there will be a few safety announcements and then the race will start

There are a number of traditional stiles on the 10k and half marathon courses and also a couple of kissing gates on the half marathon course. There are marshals positioned on all the stiles and kissing gates. We advise that you do not wear iPods or similar devices whilst running. You may not hear the marshals or indeed fellow runners if they need help! At the finish you will be awarded with your runners medal. Water will be available along with medics, should they be needed.
There will be two water stations. For the 10k race this will be at the 5k point / turn. For the half marathon this will be at the 5k / 15k point and at the turn at 10k. Bottled water is available to all runners. The bottle cap will be removed before being passed to you. The station will be clearly signed. Please try and drop your bottles as soon as possible so we don’t litter the course too much. It also helps the marshals at the stations to pick the bottles up quicker. Do not use bottled water from the drinks stations to tip over your head as this reduces supplies for runners at the back of the field. A water station is also located at the finish area. Medics are available at the water stations and at the finish. If you get into any difficulties on the course you should alert a marshal who will get help for you.
You must be fit and well to compete in the event. Severe exertion during or soon after any illness is extremely dangerous. Do not take any chances with your health. If you find yourself in this situation you must withdraw. But do not despair! Email us at least 7 days before the race and we can defer your entry to the following year for free so you do not loose your entry fee.
